Where is God In the black churches these days? In this era, many black churches are night clubs with a violent and seductively loose atmosphere with all the hip-hop dancers in the name of God and making billion dollar corporate money. Is the focus really on saving souls. Things have gotten so bad and there has been so much rage, there is violence similar to the way of the world. Gun violence is dominating the black church today. Does God even care to visit the black church since they have been welcoming a night club atmosphere for about 20 years? One of the latest violent incidents involved prominent pastors Bishop Thomas Weeks III and Dr. Juanita Bynum. The marriage ended after they both made several press conferences about their several moments of violent disputes, just like worldly celebrities.
The latest case, a black woman, Carma Russell was shot dead in front of the Atlantic Beach : Christian Methodist Episcopal Church by her estranged boyfriend, Billy Nathan Lee, 49, who has just been convicted of life in prison. Carma went to the church looking for salvation when Pastor Price led her in prayer of repentance, then as time when on, Russell asked her Pastor and husband for a place to stay. You see, she desired to leave Lee who she met on a chat line and moved into his home with her children. She worked an honest job at Chik-fila, but did not show up for work after being shot in the face. In a jealous rage, he showed up at the church with a gun he got from a drug dealer and tried to kidnap her into his van, after she refused, he shot her in the face. He admitted in court, the pastor and her husband was pulling their relationship a part and he did not appreciate it.
The second case occurred back in 2007 on the grounds of a Acts Full Gospel COGIC in East Oakland where Bishop Bob Jackson has been a long time pastor. Tanya Hill, 40 years old-was shot dead by her estranged husband Matthew, 42, in the early morning hours by her estranged husband who she tried to peacefully settle their divorce, but he would not accept her genorous offer. Hill relocated back to Vallejo after leaving her husband in American Canyon, but obviously the situation got so ugly, he just would not leave her alone. Furthermore, Bishop Bob Jackson admitted his church is so big, he did not know his parishioner, personally. Isn’t that sad? Black churches are getting so big, the pastors cannot even connect with their members.
However, does it really matter to these church leaders, if there is not enough spiritual power, demons would be afraid to approach supposedly God’s house? Are they just happy to have enough members to supplement their lavish lifestyle? Would God even step foot on the church grounds of black churches with the mindset corporate leaders have now?
